Began his career as a heating engineer at the Vyselki Interfarm Formula-Feed Plant
1990: Director of Vyselki Interfarm Formula-Feed Plant
1993: Tkachyov initiated reorganization of Vyselki Interfarm Formula-Feed Plant into Agrocomplex and became its general director
1994: Deputy of the Krasnodar Territory legislative assembly
1995-1999: Deputy of the State Duma
2000-2004: Governor of the Krasnodar Territory
April 23, 2007: Appointed governor of the Krasnodar Territory for a 5-year term
