Novorossiysk

Novorossiysk is a regionally subordinated city in Russia's southern Krasnodar Territory (aka Kuban). It is located on the south-west side of the region on the coast of the Novorossiysk (Tsemess) Bay of the Black Sea. It has a population of 228,200 people.

Novorossiysk is a major city in the Krasnodar Territory and it provides an economic foundation for the region. Novorossiysk is second after Krasnodar in terms of production volumes. It produces over 13% of the gross regional product, almost 47% of transport services, over 8% of retail sales and 7% of construction projects.

Novorossiysk is a major transport junction and the largest Russian port on the Black Sea; the port consists of passenger and cargo terminals and an oil-loading harbor. In 2009, Novorossiysk's docking companies handled 122 million tons of cargo, including 75% of oil-loading goods. The main types of cargo are ore, grain, timber, metals, containers, oil and oil products.

Novorossiysk is the center of the cement industry in southern Russia. Located near major deposits of high-quality marls, the city has five cement plants that produce about 4,500 tons of cement.

The city has a developed engineering industry which includes the Molot and Krasny Dvigatel plants, ship-repair and railway carriage repair plants, the Priboy radio manufacturing plant and others. Novorossiysk also has steel mills and facilities for building material, woodworking, and food production.

Novorossiysk is one of Russia's main wine-producing centers.

The resort complex of Novorossiysk is made up of 348 facilities. In 2009, over 546,000 tourists visited the city.

In 2009, investments in Novorossiysk amounted to about 14.4 billion roubles, including 9.2 billion roubles invested into major and medium-sized companies.

Novorossiysk has had the status of Hero City since September 14, 1973.

Vladimir Sinyagovsky took the position of Head of Municipality of Hero City Novorossiysk in 2003.
