Universiade Village is a key facility being prepared for Universiade 2013 in Kazan. The village will house and provide services for over 14,000 accredited athletes from 170 countries. The name Universiade is a combination of the words "university" and "Olympiad."
Universiade Village comprises three clusters of residential buildings, a training complex and a medical centre. The village will also include an international centre which will be used as the executive offices of Universiade 2013. It will house an information centre, a dining area, an accreditation centre, the organising committee offices, the competition statistics centre, the largest concert hall in the area and a security centre.
The first two clusters of buildings at Universiade Village will be completed and ready for use by September 1, 2010. They will include 20 residential complexes with a total area of over 187,000 square metres and capacity for over 7,200 students with all the required infrastructure and services. Students at Kazan State University (Povolzhye Federal University) will live in the village prior to Universiade 2013. Thus, there will be people living in the Village for a trial run, which also will alleviate the lack of residence hall space at the region's largest university.
A third section of Universiade Village and a training facility are to be completed as early as 2011.
