Vladimir Putin handed each candidate the respective authorization documents.

"I would like to thank you for agreeing to participate in the election campaign," the prime minister said at the Government meeting. "I think this work is very important now. There are still many unresolved issues. Both the Government and the United Russia party at the State Duma could have addressed certain problems more effectively and could have acted faster and more promptly. I wish you all success."

Vladimir Putin outlined the tasks for the election campaign.

He asked the newly appointed candidates to inform people in the regions of the ways that United Russia will handle social and economic problems.

Igor Shuvalov will be responsible for the Far-Eastern District, Yury Trutnev and Sergei Shoigu will concentrate on the Siberian and the Urals Districts. One of the most difficult regions, the Caucasus and the Stavropol territory, will be Igor Sechin's responsibility; Viktor Zubkov will be responsible for the Volga District, while Dmitry Kozak and Alexander Zhukov will focus on the Northwestern District. Finally, Vyacheslav Volodin will oversee the Saratov region.

Deputy Candidates thanked the prime minister for trusting them and promised to do their best to live up to his expectations.

"We have held regional conferences practically on the whole territory of the Russian Federation, we agreed on the plans for the development of the territories," Putin instructed his fellow party members. "And I hope that when you are talking to people in the regions you will be able to clearly show them our priorities, and in future you will make sure these plans are implemented. Good-bye and good luck!
