RBC daily: "Putin to abolish Sochi 2014 state programme"

Olympic construction which requires 1,4 trillion roubles of investment has been removed from the list of state programmes.

The latter was approver on November 11, 2010. Last week the prime minister excluded the national megaproject "Organisation and Staging of the 2014 Olympics and the Development of Sochi as Mountain Climate Resort" from the list. The executive order was signed on June 3. "This technical decision does not affect the project's management and funding," a spokesperson for Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak, who supervises the Sochi 2014, project told RBC daily. In April 2011, Deputy Regional Development Minister Vladimir Tokarev called the programme useless as there are federal targeted programmes for the preparation for the Olympics. "The mechanisms of preparation for the Sochi 2014 are smooth and efficient, and there is no need for changing them now," a member of Dmitry Kozak's staff said.
