Komsomolskaya Pravda: "Servicemen to be paid 2.5 times more"

The government discussed problems facing the army and the business community yesterday.

Inspired by his recent meeting with entrepreneurs at a social business forum, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin opened a government meeting by discussing their major problems.

"Representatives of the business community complained that you, dear colleagues, are not accessible," he said. "Neither you nor your deputies! We will closely watch the progress in eliminating administrative barriers. It is crucial to break this vicious circle where in place of some eliminated barriers, other ones arise."

Entrepreneurs emphasised that laws often obstruct business, especially when it comes to innovation.

"The Economic Development Ministry must examine all the drafted legislation to assess the regulatory impact in the area of state monitoring and establish mandatory requirements for products, safety of production processes and conformity assessments," Putin said. "Of course, the evaluation procedure should be as public and transparent as possible."

Putin then began discussing the army's major problems. The government has decided to increase servicemen's allowances by 2.5 times as of next year.

"Thus, a lieutenant in the armed forces will receive a salary of up to 50,000 roubles per month," he said. "Insurance payments for death, injury or illness of military personnel will also increase several-fold. Regarding military pensions, as we have said repeatedly, they will be increased by no less than 50% on Jan. 1, 2012."
