“Izvestiya”: “IOC Head pleased with Sochi logo”

Jacques Rogge, President of the International Olympic Committee, has visited Russia. He came to see the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics logo and make sure Sochi is ready to host the event.
Sochi 2014 CEO Dmitry Chernyshenko presented a new Olympic logo to Dmitry Medvedev. In his meeting with the head of the IOC, Jacques Rogge, the president stressed that the 2014 Winter Olympic Games are a momentous event for Russia. The Sochi.ru Olympic logo reflects this importance. "It took us a whole year to choose a logo," Chernyshenko admitted. "Finally we chose something innovative. ‘Dot ru' does not only mean we are high-tech oriented. It means the Olympics happen in Sochi and belong to all of Russia."
Medvedev appreciated the idea and said the logo is "forward-looking." "It indicates the place and the host country," the president said, happily. Chernyshenko complemented the presentation with a gift hockey T-shirt featuring the new logo.
After the meeting with Medvedev, Rogge paid a visit to Prime Minister Vladimir Putin's residence in the Moscow suburbs. The head of government told him the construction of the Olympic venues is "proceeding rapidly," involving nearly 14,500 people and over 2,000 machines. Around 123 venues are under design, the design of 42 facilities is finished and construction of 49 is in progress. Rogge shared his impressions of the Sochi Olympics logo. He said it is "fantastic, creative and very innovative."
