Questions of the week one year ago

The presidential elections are over, and some readers will soon have to think about what to do with the former president's portrait.

Sergei Stepashin, head of Russia's Audit Chamber: "Why do anything with it? It will remain on the wall. I have a photograph showing Putin together with Medvedev. Both are respected people and a good decoration for my office."

Yevgeny Yasin, Director of Research at the Higher School of Economics: "I have never had and never will have a Putin photograph. I prefer copies of famous paintings instead."

Vladimir Kashin, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee for Natural Resources: "I have had a portrait of Lenin, Russia's one and only national leader, in my office for years. I have never had and never will have portraits of Putin or Medvedev."

Mikhail Kuznestov, Governor of the Pskov Region: "I won't do anything with it. We must fight that old Asian custom of hanging a portrait of the leader and then removing it when his term ends."
Lyubov Sliska, First Deputy Speaker of the State Duma: "It will remain where it is hanging now. Why should I do anything with it? As for the new president, it is too early to speak about his portrait now. We'll see how he fares."

Boris Moiseyev, a performer: "It will remain where it is. Putin is the only national leader who has affirmed my place in society by granting me the title of Merited Artist of Russia. This is why I bought his huge portrait and hung it on the wall in my office."
