Khakassiya is one of the most picturesque regions of the Russian Federation. The republic is famous for its mineral-rich lakes. Their healing power has been described in ancient Khakass stories and legends. Health resorts at the lakes host thousands of people every year.
The Sayan Mountains, which can reach 2000 meters above sea level, cover two thirds of the republic's territory. On some of Khakassiya's rocks one can find ancient drawings which date back to the second millennium BCE. There are many other archaeological sites in the republic, including the Great Salbyk Barrow, which was described as early as the 18th century by Academician Gerhard Friedrich Müller from the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences.
Each year more than a million tourists from all over Russia spend their vacation in Khakassiya.
