Prime Minister Vladimir Putin met with the Sultan of Brunei Hassanal Bolkiah

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin met with the Sultan of Brunei Hassanal Bolkiah
The two officials discussed bilateral relations between Russia and Brunei at their meeting.

Transcript of the beginning of the meeting:

Vladimir Putin: Your Majesty, colleagues, ladies and gentlemen,

We are glad to see you in Moscow again. I remember our fist visit to Brunei Darussalam in 2000. I remember your warm welcome to the APEC summit.

I am happy to remind you that Russia is currently preparing to host the next APEC summit in 2012. It will take place in Russia's Far East. We hope to see you there.

We have several issues to discuss with you. Brunei is one of the largest producers of liquefied natural gas, and Russia is also beginning to develop this commodity.

We are also aware of your efforts to diversify the country's economy by developing high-tech industry and farming.

We are happy to see you, and welcome to Russia.

Hassanal Bolkiah (as translated): Thank you very much. Thank you for this opportunity to meet. We are happy to be here on an official visit. I like being in Moscow and appreciate the warm welcome we receive here. Thank you for organising the visit.

I remember well my previous visit to Moscow, in 2005. It was a pleasure and a success, so I have come again and have brought almost my whole family.

I am very happy with the way our bilateral ties are developing, and would like to praise your initiative here. Especially, I would like to thank you for your decision to open a Russian Embassy in Brunei Darussalam, because it will facilitate our cooperation.
