Meeting with Transport Minister Igor Levitin

Vladimir Putin: How is the Olympic project coming along?

Igor Levitin: In accordance with the Government executive order, an Olympic Games Transport Directorate has been established to ensure the movement and deliveries and provide logistical services for the contractors who will build the Olympic facilities.

Together with Olympstoy we have designated the sites where building materials will be stored on a preliminary basis, and we have already received a total order for about 70 million tons of cargo. We plan to complete two major railway cargo hubs this year. The first unit of one of these was already completed at the end of last year, and will handle up to 10 million tons of cargo every year.

We have started the construction of the first sea port that will receive cargo. We expect to complete it this year as well. On the whole, I can say that we will ensure the delivery of cargo to the city of Sochi by rail and by sea. The main task is to ensure the logistics of transportation to Sochi. All our transport facilities have been synchronized with Olympstroy and are consistent with the resources of our transport programme.
