Prime Minister Vladimir Putin met with AFK Sistema’s Chairman of the Board, Vladimir Yevtushenkov

Vladimir Putin said at the meeting that the government will support Russian microelectronic companies with government orders, primarily those which produce equipment using chips with 90 nano-micron crystals, the latest Russian development. "We will back them as we support GLONASS, and other industries, by awarding contracts," the prime minister explained.

Vladimir Yevtushenkov said that now the company has started producing 0.13-0.18 micron chips. "In late December we will increase production to a commercial scale." However, it is necessary to launch the production of the equipment using chips of 0.09 microns/90 nano-microns as early as next year. Yevtushenkov explained that at the same time, to develop this production the company needs "support from the government in terms of orders, and from the banking industry, especially regarding the issue of social and bank cards."

Yevtushenkov told Putin that Russia and China are planning to set up joint production of equipment based on the latest micro-chip. "Only recently, we were lagging behind the West by five technological generations, whereas now we have to overcome the last frontier, only one generation," he said.
