Good afternoon, colleagues,
I would like to greet you all. Today, at the consecutive meeting of the Sports Council Presidium, we shall consider progress in the key areas of our Olympic project.
Judging by the results of the three previous months, I should say that the process of the preparation for the Sochi Olympics is gathering momentum.
Settling environmental and property issues has been almost accomplished.
As to the Programme for Building Olympic Facilities and Developing Sochi, the designing of practically all facilities is at the completion stage. Nineteen sites are being built. I would like to get a detailed report on the readiness of the planned construction work schedule.
There is considerable progress in settling land disputes. But we still have problems, unfortunately. It involves, for example, assessing the compulsorily purchase of land and processing the documents related to the allotments to be distributed.
I should emphasize once again that procrastinating any procedures for the preparation for the Sochi Olympics is out of the question.
In this situation the phrase "Time is gold" is especially relevant. I use the word "gold" in its literal sense here - I mean gold Olympic medals. The sooner we are through with the construction work, the sooner our athletes will be training here, thus the brighter the outlook for our team at the future Olympics.
We need pay special attention to managing the Olympic project, building sports and leisure facilities, transport infrastructure and, of course, we are to continue monitoring all environmental issues connected with the realisation of the project.
It is necessary to maintain close ties with the International Olympic Committee, taking into account its requirements. As the future Olympic hosts, we are obliged to do it. In accordance with the IOC's requirements, we should try our best to make all necessary alterations as quickly and comprehensively as possible. Also, we should submit completed data on a timely basis.
With this in mind, we should pay special attention to the expansion of the combined railway line Adler-Krasnaya Polyana project, one of the most challenging stages of the realisation of the entire Sochi region's transport concept.
To sum it up, I would like to add that the outcome of the Beijing Olympics pointed to new priorities in the process of the Russian Olympic project's realisation. I would like to thank the project's participants, who made all the necessary conclusions from what was done in Beijing, which is vital. We should analyze the positive experience of the preparation for the Beijing Olympics.
Our Chinese colleagues did a massive job and demonstrated a very high level of competence in organising the competitions. Many of you had a chance to see it with your own eyes. I would like to stress that we must study everything that concerns the preparation for the Beijing Olympics. Our Chinese partners' best practices are to be meticulously analyzed and taken into consideration. It is also important to follow organisational differences in preparation for the Vancouver and London Olympics Our Organising Committee has already started with that kind of work. I would like to stress once again that I believe this is significant. I would like to thank the Committee for treating these matters attentively. Also, this work should be thorough and systematic.
