The victory of Russia's Fedor Emelianenko, multiple mixed martial arts heavyweight world champion, over the American Jeff Monson was the highlight of the M-1 Global tournament.
After the match, Vladimir Putin stepped into the ring to congratulate Emelianenko on his win.
Vladimir Putin's remarks:
"Dear friends, today was a great day for all fans of mixed martial arts and no-holds-barred fighting. This day was made possible by the brave, upstanding, real men who arrived here from six countries. Many thanks to them! On behalf of everyone, I'd like to congratulate Mr Emelianenko, a true Russian bogatyr – not only because of his strength, his impressive muscles and his quick reactions, but because of his character as well. He has the character of a Russian bogatyr. Congratulations, Fedor!
