Prime Minister Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences to family members and relatives of Alexander Solzhenitsyn upon the writer’s death

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin sent a telegram of condolences to family members and close ones of Alexander Solzhenitsyn.

The telegram says, in part:

«I sincerely share the grief of your family and I would like you to accept my words of deepest sympathy and support. The death of Alexander Solzhenitsyn is a grievous loss for the whole Russia. We are proud of the fact that Alexander Solzhenitsyn was our compatriot and contemporary. We will remember him as a strong, courageous man with huge internal dignity. His literary and public activities, his long, thorny life journey will remain for us an example of genuine selfless devotion, self-giving service to people, Motherland, ideals of freedom, justice and humanism».
