Prime Minister Vladimir Putin meets with Samara Region Governor Vladimir Artyakov
The discussion focused on the region’s economy, which, according to Governor Artyakov, is making steady progress: unemployment has decreased significantly and the construction of an IT park has begun. Mr Putin wondered if these improvements had had any positive demographic effect. The governor said the birth rate in the Samara Region had reached a 20-year high in 2010.

Born in Moscow on July 30, 1959. Graduated from the All-Union Order of the Red Banner of Labour Polytechnic Institute, the Russian Academy of State Administration under the Russian President, and higher courses under the General Staff Academy of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

Worked for the Russian defence industry for a long period of time.

1997-1999: Worked for the Russian President's Administrative Directorate.

1999-2000: Promexport Deputy General Director.

2000-2006: Rosoboronexport Deputy General Director.

2005-2006: Chairman of the Board of Directors of AvtoVAZ.

December 2006-August 2007: President of AvtoVAZ Group.

March-August 2007: Deputy of the Samara Region Duma of the fourth convocation.

May 2007: Elected First Deputy Chairman of the Union of Russian Machine Builders.

August 29, 2007: Became Governor of the Samara Region.
