During his ride on a shuttle train from Sheremetyevo Airport back to the heart of Moscow, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin continued discussing the development of the Moscow air traffic hub with Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov, Minister of Transport Igor Levitin, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, and Vladimir Yakunin, president of Russian Railways (RZD).
Mr Yakunin showed the prime minister a map of Moscow's railway system projected on a video screen and outlined emerging issues related to the development of an express train network linking Moscow's airports with the city centre. He also shared his impressions of riding in the express train driver's cabin.
Mr Yakunin suggested that the velocity of airport shuttles and other suburban trains could be raised to 120 km/hr, almost double the current average of 60 km/hr.
