Prime Minister Vladimir Putin meets with South Ossetian President Eduard Kokoity

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin meets with South Ossetian President Eduard Kokoity

Transcript of the beginning of the meeting:

Vladimir Putin: Mr Kokoity, ladies and gentlemen, I am happy to welcome you. We have largely completed the comprehensive reconstruction programme. I should  say that our trade doubled last year, although the absolute figures are rather modest. However, it’s a positive trend.

The intergovernmental commission, led by Russian Minister of Regional Development Viktor Basargin, has started working. I am sure that we will face many problems. You know that we closely monitor our bilateral relations. I am happy to have this opportunity to discuss our joint projects and outline plans for the future.

Eduard Kokoity: Mr Putin, I would like to thank you for this opportunity to meet to discuss our plans and to inform you that major improvements have been made to the comprehensive programme in accordance with your instructions after our previous meeting.

The situation has changed and all minor problems have been resolved. We can say with confidence today that the comprehensive plan for the reconstruction of South Ossetia has been carried out. We have done much towards this end.

Of course, this has primarily influenced the development of social conditions for South Ossetians. We have signed regulations giving us additional opportunities for more effective operation and implementation of the socio-economic development plan in South Ossetia.

Apart from the projects stipulated in the comprehensive reconstruction plan, much has been done by Russian services, in particular the border service, which has commissioned three border stations to enhance the security of South Ossetian citizens. These border stations have modern equipment and supplies, which helps to ensure the security of South Ossetians.

This has changed their view of life. Also, the republic’s potential is growing. More enterprises in the republic now can implement the goals of the republic’s socio-economic development.

Thank you.
