In December 2009, four health and fitness centres, including the Moskovsky Centre, were unveiled in the Moskovsky, Nevsky and Primorsky Districts of St Petersburg. All of them were built under an agreement of cooperation of 2008 between the city and Gazprom under Gazprom's programme for children.

These health and fitness centres have a standard design: each of them features a six-lane 25-metre swimming pool, a multi-purpose gym for indoor sports, such as volleyball, basketball and mini football, a gym for aerobic workouts on cardiac exercise machines, as well as aerobics and fitness rooms and a rehabilitation facility. The centres are enjoyed by schoolchildren, youth from Olympic reserve schools, as well as elderly and disabled people who are offered the opportunity to improve their health and fitness under various social programmes.

Under the same programme, Gazprom is funding the construction of another seven health and fitness centres. These centres are scheduled to be completed by September 2011.

Gazprom's programme for children is the company's largest social project. Overall investment into it has topped 9.3 billion roubles since 2007, and the project embraces 69 regions of Russia. Gazprom's 40 subsidiaries and organisations, as well as regional gas companies within Gazprom Mezhregiongaz, are involved in the project.

To date, 624 sport facilities have been built and renovated under this programme, including health centres, stadiums, football fields, swimming pools, playgrounds, and children's recreation centres. Another 54 sport facilities are currently under construction.
