The names of 227 Heroes of the Soviet Union, two Heroes of Socialist Labour and 33 persons awarded three Orders of Glory who lived in Tatarstan and fought in the Great Patriotic War or worked on the home front are engraved on the Colonnade of the Memorial to Glory.
Prime Minister Vladimir Putin spoke with several veterans at the memorial, congratulating them on the upcoming 65th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. Prime Minister Putin also noted that Kazan has changed for the better in the past 10 years, and that the city was hardly recognizable.
