The regions of Russia's Siberian Federal District today showed Prime Minister Vladimir Putin a wide range of projects, from industrial parks and ski resorts to medicines derived from the antlers of Red Deer.
Khakassia proposed building an Olympic ski training centre as well as the Abakan sports complex and indoor skating rink; the Krasnoyarsk Territory offered a model of a multipurpose sports complex called the Winter Sports Academy; while the Altai Territory and the Buryat Republic presented projects for the tourist-recreational zones Turquoise Katun and Baikal Harbour.
The prime minister was presented with the model of the new Manzherok alpine ski resort. The resort is located 15 kilometres away from the Gorno-Altaisk Airport. Putin asked whether the airport would be large enough to accommodate a large number of tourists. "We need to expand the airport and make the landing strip longer," Putin said.
After looking over the project to develop the Ulukhem coal basin located in the Republic of Tuva, Putin said that the government would consider it. Severstal CEO Alexei Mordashov, who presented the project, said that the deposit contained approximately 20 billion tonnes of coal.
Governor of the Novosibirsk Region Viktor Tolokonsky told the prime minister about the infrastructure of the industrial park in Novosibirsk's Academic Village. The park will include centres for nanomaterial and IT research, which will create 3,000 new jobs. The park is being built under a public private partnership.
The Tomsk Region presented its technological development zone, which will focus on nano, bio and medical technology, electronic appliances, communications facilities and information technology. The creation of the technology development zone will essentially complete the large research and innovation cluster.
