The two prime ministers met at the entrance of the memorial complex and then proceeded to the Polish war cemetery, accompanied by their delegations and representatives of public organisations. Representatives from different churches and religious groups said prayers at the cemetery, and a Polish officer delivered a passionate speech in memory of those buried there. Mr Putin and Mr Tusk laid wreaths at the monument in the cemetery, and then continued to the Russian mass graves.
An Orthodox priest said a requiem in the presence of the two prime ministers, after which there was another wreath-laying ceremony at the memorial cross.
The two delegations also held a joint commemoration ceremony.
