The talks were held at Miraflores Palace, the Venezuelan President's residence.
The negotiations focused on expanding cooperation on defence, trade and the economy, in particular in the fuel, energy and mining sectors.
The negotiations were attended by several Russian high-ranking officials, including:
- Deputy Prime Minister Igor Sechin;
- Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela Vladimir Zayemsky;
- Deputy Head of the Government Executive Office Yury Ushakov;
- Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Ryabkov;
- First Deputy Head of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation Alexander Fomin.
