Prime Minister Vladimir Putin sends his greetings to the guests of a gala night in honour of the 150th anniversary of Anton Chekhov’s birthday

The message reads, in part:

"The birth date of Anton Chekhov is an outstanding day in the cultural and public life of our country. It gives us an opportunity to recall the priceless legacy of our distinguished compatriot, an excellent prose writer and playwright.

"It is noteworthy that the Moscow Art Theatre, which proudly bears Chekhov's name and preserves the traditions he initiated, today became the venue for a meeting of members of the cultural community, including famous actors and directors, who appreciate the works of the great Russian writer.

"I know that this gala night will be long remembered by its participants and guests as a significant event in the series of the celebrations for Anton Chekhov's 150th birthday anniversary."
