Prime Minister Vladimir Putin sends a message of condolence to the family and friends of Yegor Gaidar on his passing

The message reads, in part:

"The passing of Yegor Gaidar is a great loss for Russia, for all of us. A prominent citizen and true patriot, he was a strong personality, talented scientist, writer, economist and expert. He was among those statesmen who had the chance to serve their country during a crucial stage in its history, making key decisions to determine the future. Yegor Gaidar faced the challenge, demonstrating his high professional and personal qualities. He never avoided responsibility in the most complex circumstances and withstood the test with courage and honour.

"All who knew this outstanding person, his family and friends will remember him forever."
