Prime Minister Vladimir Putin sent a congratulatory message to the faculty and student body of St Petersburg State University of Railway Engineering on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the founding of the university
The message reads, in part:
"The oldest technical university in the country travelled a great and glorious path over the past few decades becoming a recognised leader in higher education in Russia. The university established authoritative applied sciences and engineering in such crucial sectors as construction, transport, and municipal infrastructure. The university can rightfully be proud of its scientists, instructors and the many generations of alumni, who have all contributed to strengthening the Russian economy and to developing scientific and technical discourse.
"I am sure that your university will continue to maintain its leading ranking and will remain in step with the times, helping improve promising scientific developments and initiatives."
