Prime Minister Vladimir Putin sent message of greetings to participants of Third Eastern Europe and Central Asia AIDS/HIV Conference (EECAAC)

The message reads, in part:

"The spread of HIV is a major threat for entire countries and continents, killing over two million people annually. In Eastern Europe and Central Asia, arresting the spread of the virus will only be possible if we foster international cooperation, enhance prevention, bring treatment costs down and provide better support for the HIV-infected. This is the only hope for countering this disease.

I believe the Moscow forum which has always encouraged civil society, scientists, health specialists and public authorities to join the effort, will help us to resolve these vital issues.

I wish you a constructive discussion at the Conference and creative new solutions for our joint work to eliminate AIDS.
