Prime Minister Vladimir Putin sent a message to Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao, congratulating him on the 60th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China and of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and China

The message reads, in part:

"The fact that these anniversaries nearly coincide carries a special meaning within the context of relations between Russia and China. Our relations have risen to the level of strategic coordination and partnership.

"In six decades, the PRC has achieved tremendous success in social and economic development, occupying a firm position among leading world powers and gaining respected status in international affairs. The achievements resulting from your country's reform and openness policies are particularly impressive.

"It is important to note that active contacts in politics, trade, the economy, science, technology, culture and other fields are a part of the anniversary of Russian-Chinese relations. The diverse cooperation between our countries meets the fundamental and long-term interests of the Russian and Chinese people and has important significance on both regional and global scales.

"I highly value the attention which you, Mr Prime Minister, pay to the strengthening of ties with Russia, particularly through the regular meetings of heads of government. I am confident that our upcoming talks in Beijing will help implement new joint projects and further boost mutually advantageous cooperation."
