Prime Minister Vladimir Putin congratulated the employees of the Energoatom Concern with the 45th anniversary of commissioning the first energy unit of the Novovoronezh Nuclear Power Plant, which launched industrial operation of VVER reactors
A message of greetings reads, in particular, that during decades of operation, VVER reactors have "proved to be effective, economic, and safe energy units."
"Having earned the trust of energy experts, and undergone substantial modernization, VVER reactors are still the foundation of the Russian nuclear industry. New NPPs are being built in Russia and abroad on their basis," the message said.
Mr Putin expressed his confidence that "scientists, designers, engineers, operators and other employees of NPPs will continue to focus on new technologies, reliable operation of nuclear energy units, and failsafe guarantees of environmental, nuclear and radiation security."
