Prime Minister Vladimir Putin sent a message to the Chairman of Muslim Spiritual Boards in Russia, congratulating him on the onset of the Eid ul-Fitr Muslim holiday of breaking the fast of Ramadan
The message reads:
"Islamic traditions are an integral part of the rich cultural and spiritual heritage of our multi-cultural homeland, and the holiday of Eid ul-Fitr, which inaugurates the fulfilment of the holy month of Ramadan, unites the faithful around eternal moral values and humanitarian ideals.
"Propagation of beneficence, mercy, compassion and charity has decisively entered into practice in the daily lives of the Muslim associations of Russia. It is significant that their dialogue with public authorities is expanding and earnest enlightening and educational projects are being implemented. The voice of the Muslim community has a major role in confirming the ideas of tolerance and religious freedom, counteracting extremism and consolidating Russia's position in the Islamic world."
