Prime Minister Vladimir Putin signed Government Resolution No. 721 of September 10, 2009 approving changes to the Digital Russia (2002-2010) federal targeted programme.

The new version of the programme will help the Government to establish a so-called "electronic Government" more effectively, ensure cooperation between departments in order to provide federal and municipal services online, enhance the quality and accessibility of online government services and the quality of administrative and managerial processes, and finally, to improve the system of information and analytical support for decision-making at all levels of government.

This resolution is intended to increase the effectiveness of using the money allocated from the federal budget in order to move some government activities online, and will also help to create and develop federal government information systems.

The changes introduced to the programme will allow regional and municipal authorities to more effectively perform government functions and provide online services to individuals and organisations.
