Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with his Danish counterpart Lars Lokke Rasmussen

The two heads of government discussed the various aspects of trade and economic relations between Russia and Denmark, both agreeing on the need to maintain trade turnover and investment during the recession. Vladimir Putin assured his Danish counterpart that the Russian authorities make a point of supporting foreign investment and creating a non-discriminatory and comfortable business environment.

Mr Putin also cited Danish companies' high investment activity in the Russian market. Total investment has exceeded $8 billion; they have helped to build or modernise 11 industrial facilities in Russia.

Mr Putin and Mr Rasmussen discussed the two countries' energy cooperation. In particular, the Russia prime minister talked in detail about the progress of the Nord Stream gas pipeline project. The two top officials discussed the possibility of the pipeline's crossing Denmark's exclusive economic zone.

Mr Putin asked Mr Rasmussen to support Russia and the other participants in the consortium, as well as all of the countries concerned.

The two top officials also discussed the upcoming international conference on climate change in Copenhagen. According to the Russian prime minister, Russia will actively participate in the event and will be represented by a high-ranking delegation.

In conclusion, Mr Putin invited his Danish counterpart to visit Russia. The timeframe of the visit will be agreed to in the near future.
