Prime Minister Vladimir Putin sent a message of condolence to Hedwig Sailer on the death of her husband Anton Engelbert “Toni” Sailer, Austrian alpine ski racer and three times Olympic champion
The message says, in part:
"I feel bereaved with the death of your husband, who was a wonderful man and athlete, and my friend.
A whole era in alpine skiing was connected with Toni Sailer. His entire life, his fantastic sport achievements and dedication to Olympic ideals have earned him profound respect of millions of people in the whole world. Our hearty friendship is unforgettable."
