Prime Minister Vladimir Putin sent a message of condolences to Sergei Mikhalkov’s family in connection with the poet’s demise

The message reads, in part:

"An outstanding representative of Russian culture, famous writer, and the head of a big creative family has died.

"He was a man of unique talent and a surprising destiny. He is the author of wonderful books for children, which are loved by millions upon millions of people. He will always be remembered as the author of the national anthem, a remarkable public figure, and genuine patriot of Russia.

"Be strong and brave in this sad time. Please convey my sincere condolences and support to all relatives and friends of Sergei Mikhalkov."
