Prime Minister Vladimir Putin congratulated the faculty, students and alumni of the Moscow State University’s Department of Sociology on its 20th anniversary

The greeting telegram said, in part: 

"The department's foundation became a cornerstone in establishing education in sociology in Russia and launched a new stage in developing sociology as a science and a field of professional activity in the country.

Over the years, the department has grown into a major centre to train specialists, unifying talented scholars and researchers, establishing a solid educational and methodological basis and greatly contributing to the promotion of sociology and its role in modern society."
