The telegram to her husband, Vladimir Vasilyev, and mother, Tatyana Maksimova, reads, in part:
"Russia has lost the great Yekaterina Maksimova - an outstanding ballet dancer, a distinguished and exceptionally gifted person, whose performing art has without doubt defined a whole epoch in the history of national and global choreography.
"Her family and friends, her students, as well as admirers of her outstanding talent will keep cherished memories of her in their hearts."
