Vladimir Putin spoke with Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko over the phone on the initiative of the Ukrainian side

On Thursday, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin spoke with Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko over the phone on the initiative of the Ukrainian side.

Mr Putin drew the attention of Ms Tymoshenko to the fact that the Russian gas-pipeline network was operational and expressed hope that the Ukrainian side would open its gas-transport network for delivering gas to European customers.

Prime Minister Putin also said he saw no reason for preventing Russian gas transits via Ukraine.

Ms Tymoshenko voiced her opinion of pre-conditions for allowing Russian gas transits via Ukraine.

Mr Putin and Ms Tymoshenko agreed to meet in Moscow on January 17 to discuss the relevant details.
