Prime Minister Vladimir Putin sent his greetings to Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Karim Masimov on the occasion of the Kazakh national holiday, Independence Day

An excerpt from the telegram:

"The Kazakh people can be rightfully proud of their significant achievements in building a sovereign democratic state, of their successful social and economic reforms, and of their country's growing influence on the international arena.

"We value Kazakhstan's active stance in support of further consolidating the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Collective Security Treaty Organisation, and of making the Eurasian Economic Community and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation more effective. We also appreciate Kazakhstan's role in promoting integration for the sake of stability and security in Eurasia.

"We support further expansion of bilateral interaction in politics, trade, economy, culture and the humanitarian sphere. We advocate greater cooperation in energy, transport, space exploration and peaceful use of nuclear energy, and are determined to develop and diversify interregional and cross-border contacts.

"I am deeply convinced that the strategic partnership between Russia and Kazakhstan will progress and develop to benefit both nations."
