Prime Minister Vladimir Putin expressed sympathy over the death of outstanding cellist Valentin Berlinsky

A message sent to the musician's wife and daughter said, in part:

"Gone from life is a splendid maestro, a brilliant member of the Russian school of performance, and a wise teacher and instructor. His talent and boundless devotion to his profession have rightfully earned Valentin Berlinsky the fame of one of the outstanding musicians of our time.

"The fond memory of this no ordinary and creatively gifted person will forever remain in the hearts of his relatives, friends, and pupils, and all admirers of his radiant and original gift."
