Prime Minister Vladimir Putin sends greetings to the participants, organisers and guests of the international scientific conference Baikal - World Treasure, held under the auspices of the Fund for the Protection of Lake Baikal
The telegram reads, in part:
"In recent years the fund has gained a considerable reputation and has established itself as a highly popular organisation. The fund has helped to implement projects aimed at comprehensive studies of Lake Baikal and the protection of its priceless natural resources. The importance of each such initiative is hard to overestimate. In this sense the Miry (the Worlds) international research expedition was a large-scale event, the results of which will play a huge role in the preservation of the unique ecosystem of Lake Baikal.
"I would like to stress that the fund is always open to partnerships and friendly and constructive cooperation. I am convinced that it will continue working together with the Russian Geographical Society to find solutions to key national challenges."
