Prime Minister Vladimir Putin congratulates current and former employees of the Russian Foreign Ministry on Diplomatic Worker’s Day

The message reads, in part:

"This professional holiday was established ten years ago, but the history of Russian diplomacy extends back for centuries – a history that is rich in major, unforgettable deeds, worthy names, and instances of selfless service to the Motherland. Work for the Foreign Ministry has always been honourable, demanding a high degree of competence, deep and versatile knowledge, devotion to the country's national interests, and of course, an ability to deal with critical and complex tasks in a creative and unconventional way.

"At present, taking into account the complex and swiftly changing international situation, our diplomatic service must be even more proactive and purposeful, providing favourable external conditions for Russia's economic and social development, while strengthening global stability and security on the basis of strict adherence to international law.

"Russian diplomats also face important tasks for the strengthening of integration processes in Eurasia, advancement of the interests of Russian businesses on global markets, and protection of our citizens' and compatriots' rights abroad.

"I am confident that the Russian Foreign Ministry, diplomatic and consular missions will continue doing their utmost to enhance Russia's global standing and influence."
