Prime Minister Vladimir Putin signs Executive Order No 2199-r of December 7, 2011, on approving a list of essential medicines for 2012

The list of life-saving and essential drugs for 2012 now includes 567 which are under international non-proprietary names, with 93 of them (16.4%) produced only in Russia, 207 (36.5%) produced only abroad and 267 (47.1%) produced by both Russian and foreign pharmaceutical companies.

The Ministry of Healthcare and Social Development reports that the list of life-saving and essential drugs was compiled in accordance with the updated list of the World Health Organization approved in March 2011 and is aimed at increasing the availability of modern vital medicines required by Russian citizens for the treatment of the most common and severe health conditions.
