Prime Minister Vladimir Putin sends a message of greetings to delegates and guests of the Fifth Meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation’s Transport Ministers

The message reads, in part:

"Transport ranks among the most important and high-priority aspects of cooperation between Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) member states. This is because of the region's unique location and geopolitical position and its tremendous economic potential. Modern infrastructure is a key to implementing many business projects and initiatives to create advanced production facilities and quality jobs. Coordinated intra-CIS efforts are a good opportunity to expedite the construction and reconstruction of roads, to create new aviation and railway routes and to integrate various transport systems to provide efficient passenger and freight transport all in harmony with the highest environmental standards.

"I'm confident that the upcoming meeting of the Council of SCO Heads of Government, scheduled to be held November 7, 2011 in St Petersburg, will prioritise the issues of transport development and the creation of a stable logistics infrastructure in the region, and that SCO observers and dialogue partners will also take the same active part in discussing the issue.

"I would like to once again assure you that the Russian Federation will help strengthen multi-faceted intra-SCO partnership in every possible way."
