Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin congratulates participants in a ceremony dedicated to the 450th anniversary of Saint Basil’s Cathedral
"The Cathedral of the Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos on the Moat, popularly known as Saint Basil's Cathedral, is visible evidence of the immense talent and creative power of our people; it is rightly referred to as one of the symbols of Moscow and of Russia, and as the heritage of the entire world civilisation. This ancient and inimitable church witnessed the greatest events in Russian history and stood as a centre of the nation's spiritual and cultural life.
"It is gratifying that the current concern for the preservation and conservation of this invaluable monument is an example of the unification of the government and civil society, and of the cooperation of the Russian Orthodox Church, scientists, restorers, museum workers, philanthropists and concerned individuals who hold our common heritage dear."
