Prime Minister Vladimir Putin speaks at the 200th anniversary of the Imperial Lyceum in Tsarskoye Selo
The message reads, in part:
"This anniversary is a very special date in Russia's history. A truly unique educational institution, the Lyceum has educated several generations of brilliant people and true patriots of their Fatherland. It was the alma mater for a constellation of prominent scientists, writers, diplomats and military commanders, in whom Russia takes pride and glory.
"The Lyceum in Tsarskoye Selo certainly played an important role in the life and creative development of Russian poet Alexander Pushkin. His poems dedicated to his Lyceum friends or the high ideals of their Lyceum fraternity are among his best and most passionate works.
"It was here that some of the best traditions of Russian education and culture originated – traditions that are still relevant and necessary in national education."
