Meetings of the CIS Council of Heads of Government, the EurAsEC Interstate Council, and the Customs Union’s supreme governing body, to be held in St Petersburg, October 18-19

On October 18 and 19, St Petersburg will host meetings of the Commonwealth of Independent States' Council of Heads of Government, the Eurasian Economic Community's Interstate Council, and the Customs Union's supreme governing body at the level of prime ministers. Vladimir Putin will be chairing the Russian delegation.

The meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of Government is expected to focus on issues crucial to the commonwealth's future development, including the elaboration of a new Free Trade Zone Treaty and a Plan of Measures for the Implementation of the Second Stage (2012-2015) of the CIS Economic Development Strategy to 2020.

The EurAsEC Interstate Council meeting will be held in a five-party format, with the agenda dominated by the establishment of a EurAsEC court and the EurAsEC member states' plan of joint measures to deal with the aftermath of the global financial crisis.

The trilateral session of the Customs Union's supreme governing body, which will bring together the prime ministers of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, will consider a draft Declaration on the Creation of the Eurasian Economic Union and discuss progress in approving a draft Customs Union Commission Treaty. Keynote speeches to be delivered at the forum will deal, specifically, with the coming into force of international treaties that form the regulatory basis for the Common Economic Space of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan.
