Prime Minister Vladimir Putin sends a message of greetings to participants and guests at the “Tchaikovsky in St Petersburg” festival, held to mark the opening of the anniversary season at Carnegie Hall

The message reads, in part:

"It is deeply symbolic that long ago, in 1891, the brilliant history of one of the most famous concert halls in the world, with its history of top quality events, creative achievements, and well known performers, began with a performance of Pyotr Tchaikovsky compositions. Today, 120 years later, music by this great Russian composer will be performed on this legendary stage by the renowned Mariinsky Theatre orchestra. We are happy that the tradition of cultural cooperation between our countries continues.

It is significant that this project involves not only connoisseurs of music but also those who love Russian art, literature, and poetry, and who are interested in the eventful and diverse life of Russia's northern capital, St Petersburg."
