Prime Minister Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez late last night

The two officials discussed various aspects of trade and economic cooperation between Russia and Venezuela, particularly cooperation in energy, defence equipment, housing construction and finance.

Mr Putin will meet with visiting Venezuelan Finance Minister Jorge Giordani in Moscow today to continue the discussion of these issues.
