Prime Minister Vladimir Putin sends his congratulations to chairpersons of Russian Muslim boards on the Eid ul-Fitr (Uraza-Bayram) holiday

The message reads, in part:

"A long-awaited and joyful holiday for the adepts of Islam all over the world ends the month of spiritual renewal and growth. Russia's Muslims actively celebrate this outstanding event in their communities and with their families, drawing on rich historical, cultural and religious traditions.

Muslim organisations are actively involved in Russia's life. Their cooperation with state and public organisations is being strengthened, and dialogue between faiths continues to expand. Much attention is devoted to charitable and educational initiatives. The principled stance of the Muslim clergy, which firmly opposes the attempts of various extremists to distort the values of Islam and to sow the seeds of strife and intolerance, deserves every respect.

Today we are witnessing the full life of Russia's Muslim community. Mosques are being built, and universities and madrasahs established. The system of Islamic education is being overhauled, and Muslim pilgrimages to holy places are being organised more effectively. Such fruitful and multi-faceted activity is supported by the entire society and promotes civil peace and accord in this country."
