Prime Minister Vladimir Putin congratulates Russian Jews on Passover

A telegramme of greetings reads, in part:

"I congratulate you on Passover, one of the most important Jewish holidays.

Passover symbolises a landmark event in Jewish history: the acquisition of freedom and the Ten Commandments – the foundation of high moral standards that have united humanity for millennia. The values of Judaism are based on the eternal ideals of justice, kindness, care for kith and kin, and love for your homeland.

Russia's Jewish community has invariably made a powerful contribution to the promotion of inter-ethnic and inter-religious dialogue in our country and the consolidation of a centuries-long friendship among its people. I am convinced that it will always be so.

I wish peace, happiness and prosperity to you and all the Jewish people of Russia."
